TJ Sports

1. Project Background

TJ Sports, based in Shanghai, primarily handles League of Legends esports broadcasting, operating 3 large studios, 2 medium studios, and 1 remote production home venue.

The entire system adopts a hybrid architecture combining full-IP production with baseband playout scheduling. It shares 15 camera channels, 3 switchers, and one baseband matrix. VSM serves as the top-level application software, connecting all studio systems via the network and combining the basic functions of each device into multi-system capabilities. This enables one-touch studio switchover, achieving not only full-coverage studio management but also full coupling, improving compatibility between studios and merging several studios into one at the control level. This makes studio coordination smoother while allowing studios to complement each other. VSM also interfaces with open-source software such as Tally Arbiter and Companion, enabling linkage between software and hardware.

Since VSM cannot directly control the Companion soft panel or receive Tally Arbiter message events, this software was developed to enable VSM to control Companion soft panels for match broadcasting and third-person OB viewing, and to receive Tally Arbiter message events and forward them to VSM so that VSM can accept Tally Arbiter control.

II. System Functions

This software acts as a "bridge," connecting to VSM via the Quartz protocol and controlling Companion button press and release actions through the UDP/TCP protocol provided by Companion. It also communicates with Tally Arbiter via the TSL5.0 UDP protocol, enabling interconnection between VSM and Companion, and between VSM and Tally Arbiter.

Steam Deck is a portable handheld gaming device developed by Valve. The device runs Steam OS, which supports other gaming platforms and their games.

This software integrates non-broadcast devices such as Stream Deck for control access, enabling consolidated OB and PC workstation operations through such devices. It expands the operational scope for OB operators to control in-game content display, allowing faster and more accurate operation of data, POV, team fights, and other content.

This software enables broadcast equipment to control non-broadcast devices. Through crosspoints, virtual GPI, and other methods, it allows control of non-broadcast devices such as VMIX computers via VSM panels and switcher switching.

This software receives tally information from VMIX computers, used to trigger multiviewer video wall tally and switcher bus cut/fill key functions.

This software enables VSM to connect with third-party software as a studio system control platform. Through this system, VSM can control Companion software and provide unified configuration and recall for a full range of products including matrix, switcher, camera, audio mixer, intercom matrix, recorder, EVS, and more. It enables rapid system snapshots and flexible parameter configuration.

IV. System Deployment at TJ Sports

The system was officially deployed on April 17, 2023 and entered trial operation on May 9. It has been running stably ever since.

This software controls Companion to provide third-person OB perspectives during League of Legends Professional League matches. It bridges the traditional broadcasting industry with non-broadcast sectors such as game live streaming, breaking down barriers between the two industries. It achieves linkage in operations and workflows, enabling game OB operators to better manage match perspectives and the overall broadcast flow.
